We’ve made a couple of changes to our Missouri State Highway Patrol crash reports premium service (Crash Reports dB). Since launching the premium service in February of 2004, we’ve offered a free 30 day trial. Effective September 1, 2005, the free trial is no longer an option. Obviously, this won’t affect subscribers in the middle of their trial period.

Why the change? We have been swamped by people signing up for the free trial just to look up one traffic accident, with no intention of subscribing to the service. In many instances, they emailed a cancellation within minutes of our processing and creating the account. It became such a drain on our resources we elected to do away with the free trial.

It was a tough decision made easier by the fact that we continue to offer the free crash report service that has all of the very same reports (at least for 10 days).

We’ve made one additional change regarding pricing. If you want to try the service but aren’t sure you’re ready to make the one-year comittment, you can purchase a one-month subscription for $29. If you like the service and want to continue, we’ll apply the first month to an annual subscription and –in effect– give you the first month free.

Crash Reports dB (our premium service) has clearly evolved as a service best suited (and priced) for businesses and organizations while the free service is a better fit for individuals. And keep the premium service going is important in that it underwrites the cost of maintaining the free site.
