Dick Vermeil says Trent Green is fine and that he should be available for the Chiefs’ September 11 season opener against the Jets at Arrowhead Stadium. But apparently Trent Green’s status wasn’t as rosy as it was made out to be earlier this week.

Kansas City’s starting quarterback underwent surgery to open an artery in his leg, which was causing numbness. Vermeil downplayed the seriousness of the procedure, though it will prevent him from starting against the Rams in Friday’s pre-season finale at the dome in St. Louis.

Tests were run on Green over the weekend and doctors didn’t find anything wrong. Green started experiencing the numbness last week and left the game against the Seahawks in the first quarter on Saturday.
