The most reliable member of the Cardinals roster did it again on Monday. Chris Carpenter lasted 7 2/3 innings to chalk up his 19th win of the season, as St. Louis topped Florida 6-1 in Miami. Carpenter (19-4) was able to work around seven hits and a walk to get the win.

Florida’s only run of the night came in the fourth inning when Jeff Conine drove in Carlos Delgado with a sacrifice fly.

David Eckstein proved to be the Cardinals’ offensive catalyst with a 4-for-5 night, a run and three RBI’s. He broke a scoreless tie in the second inning with a single to left field that scored Yadier Molina. In the fourth, with St. Louis leading 3-0, Eckstein drove in two more with a two run triple, which plated Abraham Nunez and Carpenter.

Larry Walker connected for his 12th home run of the season with a solo blast in the third. Molina also drove in a run.

Carpenter has been uneatable in his last 14 starts, going 11-0 in that stretch.
