A central Missouri farmer who hosted Governor Matt Blunt during the Governor’s tour of drought-stricken Missouri says the rains this month have boosted his spirits and should boost his soybean yield. Joe Baumgartner farms near the Columbia Regional Airport. He says the more than 10 inches of rain this month came too late to help his corn crop, but should help fill-out his soybeans. The biggest benefit of the rain, says Baumgartner, is its effect on his pastures. He says the pastures have rebounded nicely, keeping him from having to feed hay too early. Baumgartner says the rains also provided relief from worry, giving him a better outlook as he prepares for colder weather.
