The State Economic Development Department has set aside a one-million dollar federal grant to help Missourians who will lose their jobs because of military unit closings. Until the Base Realignment and Closure Commission recommended the closing of several Missouri military offices and units, the Department hadn’t found a use for the money it got at the end of June. Department Director Greg Steinhoff has earmarked the grant for Missouri miltiary employees who might lose their jobs. The President and Congress have not approved the job cuts and it might be a year or two before people lose their jobs.
