Rick Ankiel went 4-for-4 with four RBI’s to lead the Springfield Cardinals over Wichita 8-6. Ankiel also connected for his seventh home run since being called up to Class-AA. In 28 games with Springfield this season, Ankiel is hitting .303 with 23 RBI’s.

The two teams were scheduled to play two seven-inning games on Sunday, but just one was completed because of rain. The game that was completed lasted eight innings, so technically it was considered and extra innings game.

Tied 6-6 in the eighth, the Cardinals broke the tie when Brendan Ryan and Shaun Boyd attempted a double-steal. Wichita catcher Matt Tupman’s throw was wild and Ryan scored. Herr, who was at the plate during the double-steal, hit a single to drive in Boyd.

Pitchers Josh Kinney and Andy Cavazos finished off the game in the bottom of the eighth.
