House Democrats want to suspend 10 cents of the fuel excise tax for two weeks to give Missouri consumers a break as the gas pump. Representative Jeff Harris of Columbia says the “Gas Tax Holiday” would save consumers $18.5-Million, which he claims would be largely offset by increased sales. He wants the Governor to add the proposal to the special session next month. Governor Matt Blunt’s spokesman, Spence Jackson, calls it a risky scheme that would rob the Transportation Department of needed money. Jackson says the Governor has no plans to add the gas tax holiday proposal to the special session.
