Secretary of State Robin Carnahan says she’s disappointed Governor Matt Blunt did not add in a piece of legislation he backed when he was Secretary of State – closing some loopholes on variable annuities legislation – to September’s special legislative session. She wants the authority to better regulate variable annuities sales because of the high commissions and other fees charged in those transactions. She adds senior citizens seem the most vulnerable. Blunt did not put the variable annuities fix in the September special session, although he had called for a similar fix just a year ago, before being elected Governor.
