The worst season in the history of Kansas City Royals baseball continued to get worse on Wednesday with an 11-5 loss to the Mariners in Seattle. The Royals extended their longest losing streak in franchise history to 18 games, after getting down 4-0 early on and eventually trailing 8-0.

In the bottom of the first, starter D.J. Carrasco loaded the bases with a single sandwiched between two walks. He then allowed a grand slam to Adrian Beltre.

With the Mariners ahead 5-0, Carrasco opened up the fourth inning by allowing three straight singles and another run. He was pulled for Shawn Camp, who got Ichiro Suzuki to hit a grounder to second, but Yuniesky Betancourt scored on the play and Seattle led 7-0.

Richie Sexson homered off Camp in the fifth to make it 8-0.

The only highlight for the Royals came in the ninth inning when backup catcher Paul Phillips launched a two-out grand slam off reliever Matt Thornton. Thornton loaded the bases by walking Mike Sweeney, Joe McEwing and Mark Teahen. Donnie Murphy was up next and struck out to end the game.

Carrasco (5-7) got the loss and was charged with seven runs off eight hits and two walks. Jamie Moyer (10-4) was the winner after a seven-inning, six-hit performance that featured seven strikeouts. Moyer has a career record of 13-4 against the Royals.
