Scott Rolen’s availability for the rest of the 2005 season, and the playoffs, is in serious question. He had his ailing shoulder re-evaluated and was given a number of suggestions to heal it—one of those suggestions was a season-ending surgery according to an unnamed source in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Another option would be to continue rehabilitation of the shoulder through exercise and possibly play late in the season or in the playoffs, then have surgery. That decision, however, could limit his availability for spring training.

Rolen told the paper yesterday that his situation had “regressed” and he still can’t take batting practice.
