The Springfield Cardinals topped the Frisco RoughRiders 5-3 at Hammons Field on Tuesday, thanks to a couple of quick blasts in the third inning. Tyler Minges and Aaron Her connected on back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the third inning to put the Cardinals on top for good. It was the 19th of the year for Minges and the 21st for Herr.

Rick Ankiel gave Springfield a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single, but former SMS star Jason Hart tied it up with an RBI single of his own in the top of the second. In the top of the third Frisco went up 2-1 when Jace Brewer scored on a bases-loaded grounder from Vince Sinsi.

Springfield starting pitcher Stuart Pomeranz lasted five innings and allowed two runs off five hits and a walk to improve to 4-5. Reliever Cory Doyne pitched the final 1 1/3 inning to get his 14th save.
