After playing 13 straight games on the road, the Springfield Cardinals returned home with a bang. Rick Ankiel hit a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the 13th, giving Springfield an 11-10 win over Midland. The home run capped a wild back-and-forth game. The Cardinals jumped out to a 6-2 lead after three innings. They led 7-4 after five, but the RockHounds scored single runs in each of the next four innings to take an 8-7 lead. Brendan Ryan homered in the ninth for the Cardinals, sending the game to extra innings. The teams traded runs in the 12th before Midland took the lead in the top of the 13th on a solo homer by Kevin Melillo. After Shaun Boyd singled, Ankiel blasted his third home run of the year, ending a 5-hour, 27 minute game, the longest in franchise history. Aaron Herr finished with four hits and four RBI for the Cardinals. Alan Benes picked up the win in relief.
