The Kansas City Wizards opened their defense of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title with a 6-1 win over the Des Moines Menace. Josh Wolff led the Wizards with two goals and two assists. His goal at the 31st minute broke a 1-1 tie and put the Wizards up for good.

The U.S. Open Cup, which is the oldest soccer tournament in America, is open to any soccer team, professional or amateur.

The Wizards will face the Minnesota Thunder of the USL on August 24th, after they upset the MLS’ Colorado Rapids 4-1.
