So Taguchi’s first career pinch hit home run came at a good time for the Cardinals in a 9-6 win over the Marlins. With Florida leading 4-2 in the seventh inning, Taguchi lifted a three-run homer to give the Cardinals a 5-4 advantage. Taguchi came into the at-bat 2-for18 in pinch-hit situations this season. It was his sixth home run of the season.

Later in the inning, David Eckstein scored on a wild pitch by Antonio Alfonseca to cap the four-run rally. Eckstein finished 3-for-5 with two RBI’s and two runs scored.

Starting pitcher Matt Morris (12-4) snapped a personal two-game skid by lasting seven innings and giving up four runs off nine hits and two walks. Morris, who has never lost three games in a row, earned the 99th win of his career.
