Governor Matt Blunt visits five farms to observe the impact the drought has had on Missouri agriculture. Blunt began the tour at a farm south of Columbia, where he looked at soybean plants that are at a critical stage. If they get a good rain in the next week or two, they might produce a decent yield. If not, the yield will be poor. Blunt says he needs to see the devastation first-hand. Blunt has asked for a drought assessment of the entire state by the USDA Farm Services Agency. Once he receives its report, he will request a federal drought declaration for the state to enable Missouri farmers to qualify for assistance.
