The woes for the Springfield Cardinals continued on Sunday night with a 10-7 road loss to the Tulsa Drillers. Things looked good early in when Shaun Boyd led off the game with a home run off Tulsa Starter Ramon Ramirez.

But that was all the scoring Springfield got for a few innings. In the mean time, the Drillers were pounding Cardinals starter Josh Axelson and built a 5-1 lead by the second inning. Tulsa scored twice in the first inning with an RBI single by Jud Thigpen and a sacrifice fly by Corey Slavik.

In the second inning, Tulsa went on a three-run rally to take a 5 -1 lead. Hector Tena hit a lead off home run and Jasyson Nix drilled a two run homer.

In the fourth inning, Springfield cut into the lead when Aaron Herr hit the third lead-off homer of the game—it was his 16th home run of the season. Later in the inning, Jordan Czarniecki scored on an RBI single from Brendan Ryan to make it 5-3. But Tulsa didn’t wait long to respond.

In the bottom of the fourth, Nix hit his second two-run homer of the game to give Tulsa its four-run lead back. The Drillers went up 8-3 in the fifth inning with a solo homer from Luis Guance.

The Cardinals refused to die, though. They went on a four-run rally in the sixth inning. Gabe Johnson hit a three run homer and Kevin Estrada drove in a run with a single and that made it 9-7, but the Cardinals got no closer.

They have lost seven-of-nine.
