Starting catcher Yadier Molina won’t be ready to resume his duties behind the plate for at least another 2-3 weeks, according to the team.

On Tuesday it was learned that his broken left hand still isn’t ready and more time will be needed before he can catch again. Originally Molina was expected to return on Friday. Molina injured his hand on July 7 after being hit by a pitch.

In the meantime Einar Diaz and Mike Mahoney will continue to platoon behind the plate.

This is the third day in a row that the Cardinals have gotten health related news. On Sunday, outfielder Reggie Sanders was put on the DL and will miss 6-8 weeks with a hairline fracture in his right leg. On Monday it was learned that third baseman Scott Rolen will be limited in his playing time with tendonitis in his right shoulder.
