St. Louis police have their suspect in last week’s killing of Kirkwood police Sergeant Willliam McEntee, but they still do not have the weapon. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch quotes police sources saying suspect Kevin Johnson has denied the killing, although several witnesses have identified him as the shooter. The 19-year-old is being held in the St. Louis County Jail in Clayton on charges of first-degree murder and four other felony counts related to the shooting of McEntee. McEntee was shot and killed last week while seated in his patrol car in the Meacham Park area of Kirkwood, talking with a teen-age boy, who was also shot and wounded. Witnesses have told police that McEntee drove his car for a distance after being shot once, but the killer followed it and shot McEntee several more times. No weapon has been found. Also missing is McEntee’s pistol, which police believe the killer took along with ammunition. Relatives of Johnson arranged for his surrender to police after a three-day manhunt last week. The prosecutor says he has not decided whether to ask for the death penalty.
