The Springfield Cardinals couldn’t hold up against the Wichita Wranglers in a 6-4 loss in Wichita on Tuesday night. Justin Huber, who recently did a stint with the Royals, broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the third inning to cap a three-run rally for the Wranglers.
The Cardinals responded in the fourth inning with a three-run rally of their own, which came directly off Aaron Herr’s bat. Herr crushed his 12th home run of the season with Juan Diaz and Peter Zoccolillo on base to make it 3-3.
The game remained tied until the fifth inning, when Josh Pressley doubled in two runs to give Wichita a 5-3 advantage. That hit proved to be the game-winner.
Springfield starter Jeremy Cummings dropped to 2-3 on the season by allowing five runs off five hits and three walks over five innings. Wichita starter Brian Bass lasted into the seventh inning and improved to 7-4 by surrendering three earned runs off six hits and two walks.
