The SMS women’s basketball team has landed its third recruit for the 2006-2007 season. Ashley Lord, a senior-to-be at Marmaton Valley High school, in Moran, Kansas, has given head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson a verbal commitment.
As a junior, the 6-3 post player averaged 22 points and 13 rebounds per game. Lord told the Springfield News-Leader that she has dreamed of coming to Springfield for quite some time. She said she was a big fan of former Lady Bear and NCAA women’s all-time leading scorer Jackie Stiles.
The recruiting class also includes 6-1 point guard Melissa Busby of Edmonds, Oklahoma and Taylor Silas, who is a 5-8 guard from Flushing, Michigan.
