All-Star voting ended on Thursday night and the rosters for the N.L. and A.L. squads will be announced on Sunday night at 6PM Central time. Yesterday afternoon one St. Louis Cardinal found himself out of first place at his position and another found himself move up to first place at his position.
Cardinals’ first baseman Albert Pujols, who had been the leading vote-getter at first base since balloting began, was 49,110 votes behind Cubs’ first baseman Derrek Lee. David Eckstein, who trailed Dodgers shortstop Cesar Izturis by 44,000 votes, found himself with a 337,131 vote lead on Thursday.
Scott Rolen was the leader at third base and center fielder Jim Edmonds was the second-leading vote-getter amongst National League outfielders.
For the Royals, it looks like their only representative will be the result of the Major League Baseball’s requirement to have a representative from each team in the All-Star Game. None of the Royals are in the top five at any position in the balloting.
Fans who think their favorite player was snubbed in the balloting will be able to vote for him again after the teams are announced. One player from each league will be added to the roster based on the new balloting.
