State Auditor Claire McCaskill issues a follow-up audit to a study she did three years ago that said there was not proper monitoring of the state prescription drug program. She said people were doctor-shopping, getting extra prescriptions they were not supposed to receive. McCaskill says while there were safeguards implemented after her first audit to stop that sort of thing, there was not enough monitoring to make sure the safeguards were used. McCaskill says more staff could help with the monitoring, and the money saved from catching abusers would more than pay for that extra staff.
