The Royals hot start under Buddy Bell has gone terribly cold. They dropped their sixth straight game and suffered their eighth loss in nine tries with a 9-4 decision against the Rockies. Kansas City scored twice in the first and added two more in the ninth, but couldn’t get much going in between.

Mark Teahen and Justin Huber drove in runs with singles in the first inning, but Colorado countered with two of their own in the bottom of the first to tie it. In the fifth, Rockies third baseman Garret Atkins gave Colorado the lead with an RBI single…it was the first of three RBI’s for Atkins, who drove in two with a double in the eighth to make it 8-2. Former Royal Desi Relaford was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Rockies their final run of the game.

Matt Stairs hit a two run homer, his eighth, in the ninth inning to make it 9-4. Jose Lima lasted 4 2/3 innings and dropped to 1-6 on the season. The Royals are now 25-49 and passed the Rockies for the worst record in baseball.
