Going for a swim during the hot, hazy days of Summer can be relaxing and refreshing. It can also make some people sick. The State Health Department is warning swimmers about the spread of water-borne bacteria in a lot of pools, lakes, and streams. The Department’s Brian Quinn says some water is safer to swim in – water in pools that are treated with chlorine. Quinn says, though, that while pools with chlorine are generally safer, it is important for those in charge of the pools to closely monitor chlorine levels to make sure the water remains safe.
