Governor Mat Blunt rejects Secretary of State Robin Carnahan’s suggestion that he add proposed regulation of variable annuities to his call for a special legislative session in September. Efforts to give the Secretary of State authority to regulate variable annuities have died in the last two legislative sessions. Blunt sees no reason to add the issue to the special session. Blunt has called on the Legislature to consider approving an anti-abortion bill in the special session. It would allow the parents of girls taken across the state line for abortions to sue those who aided in the effort to get around Missouri’s parental consent law.
