A poet once wrote: The boundless prairies learned his name, His words the mountain echoes knew,
The Northern breezes swept his fame Form icy lakes to warm bayou. Perhaps that is why Daniel Webster was so well-known in Missouri, and why he was so warmly greeted on his only known trip to our state. We have towns, counties, and schools named for him, another indication of the respect Missourians felt for the senator from Massachusetts.
