Preliminary unemployment statistics for May have been released by the State Economic Development Department. And, the figures show May’s jobless rate was a seasonally adjusted 5.6 percent, the same as in April. The current rate is also the same as it was a year ago in May. On a positive note, the preliminary information shows Missouri created 5,900 jobs between April and May. The most notable increases were in trade, transportation and utilities. Gains were also made in educational and health services.
