He was practically unknown to the majority of Missourians, and not known at all nationwide. He didn’t become a candidate until a month before the election. But he piled up one of the biggest winning margins of any governor in Missouri history. He was backed by Tom Pendergast and was such a party man that the Capitol came to be called “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” He was Guy B. Park, a governor who inherited first a nomination then a state during a depression.
