The St. Louis Cardinals’ first-round draft pick from last year made his Double-A debut with the Springfield Cardinals on Wednesday and came away with a 5-2 loss to the Midland RockHounds. 22-year old Chris Lambert lasted five innings and was charged with four runs off five hits and four walks. Lambert was a star at Boston College, where he posted a 6-4 record with a 3.02 ERA last season. He struck out a school record 107 batters as a senior.

The RockHounds hit solo home runs in the first, second and eighth innings.

That loss ended Springfield’s three-game winning streak.
