Now that Deep Throat has been revealed to be former FBI official Mark Felt, memories of Watergate come flooding back, and for those who teach at the Journalism School at the University of Missouri, they remember the flood of students coming to them in wake of the Watergate coverage. MU Journalism professor Daryl Moen says Watergate brought in a different type of student, one who was motivated and driven to make a difference in the world. He says some, though, came to J-school for the glamour they saw in the movie “All The President’s Men” and left discouraged when they discovered journalism was rarely glamorous. Moen says that many who came made journalism their profession and have made real contributions to that profession.
