The Springfield Cardinals were hoping close out their first series sweep of the season, instead they were blasted 16-7 by the Midland RockHounds. lost to the Midland RockHounds 16-7 on the road. The Cardinals had one very brief lead when they went up 1-0 in the top of the third when Shaun Boyd drove in a run with a single.

The bottom of the third proved to be quite ugly for Springfield. The RockHounds blasted starter Jeremy Cook for ten runs off 11 hits, as 15 batters came to the plate in the third. They then scored runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings as well.

Cook got the loss and fell to 2-2 on the season.

The River City Rascals topped the Mid Missouri Mavericks of Columbia 9-3 in the Frontier League opener in Columbia.
