The Summer’s most laid-back holiday weekend is within reach, and State Tourism Director John Robinson calls it a holiday for families to get together, but without the festivity and excitement of the other holiday weekends -the Fourth of July, for example. He says it’s a Summer holiday with a somber tinge – a time when many people visit graveyards to honor veterans or just to remember family. He and his 89 year old father plan to do that. He says colleges and universities are mostly finished and many public schools have finished their years, meaning this weekend will be the first big family travel weekend. He does not think gas prices will keep people at home this weekend, although it might have an impact later in the summer on their longer-distance traveling.
