After losing the opener on Monday, the Cardinals took two out of three from the Mets, winning Sunday 4-2. Matt Morris, who is a native of Middletown, New York had about 40 of his friends and family in attendance and he didn’t disappoint them. Morris lasted 7 2/3 innings to improve to 3-0 on the season. It was Morris’ longest performance of the season (he had off-season shoulder surgery). He allowed two runs off six hits, two walks and struck out six batters.

Randy Flores relieved him to get the final out of the eighth. In the ninth, Jason Isringhausen threw ten pitches to get his ninth save of the season—it was his second in as many days. Isringhausen was pulled from the DL on Friday after suffering an abdominal strain last month.

John Mabry did most of the damage for the Cardinals at the plate, going 2-for3 with three RBI’s. Mabry launched a two-run homer in the second inning to break a scoreless tie. He gave the Cardinals a 4-1 lead in the sixth with an RBI single. . Mabry was filling in for first baseman Albert Pujols, who took his first day off of the season. Reggie Sanders hit his 10th home run of the season with a solo shot in the fourth inning.

The Cardinals, at 12-4, have the best road record in the major leagues. They head to Philadelphia, where they open a three-game series with the Phillies on Tuesday and wrap up the nine-game road trip in Kansas City over the weekend. . The Cardinals are 24-13 overall and have a 5 ½ game lead over the Brewers in the National League Central.
