Osteoporosis – a weakening of the bones – is on the rise in Missouri and throughout the country. and, the State Health Department wants to raise awareness of the problem. The Department’s Virginia Beatty says the problems begin early in life, partly because kids are not eating enough calcium-rich foods like yogurt and cheese. In addition, they’re not getting enough exercise. Beatty says the best way to strengthen bone mass is to exercise and to eat healthy. She says for most of us, it’s never too late to start thinking about strengthening our bones.
