The former Catholic priest who has had his indecent exposure conviction overturned by the State Supreme Court will remain behind bars. James Beine, also known as Mar James, was an elementary school counselor in St. Louis when he was arrested on several counts of sexual misconduct involving a minor by indecent exposure. He was convicted and sent to prison in 2003, but the Suprme Court ruled last month that the statute under which Beine was convicted was unconstitutional, and Beine was ordered released from prison on $5,000 bond while the ruling is appealed by the State Attorney General. Now, Beine’s lawyer says his client will temporarily remain in prison – for his own safety.
