He was called “Mr. Missouri” by some. He might have been a great musician except for a hearing defect which forced him to turn his interests elsewhere. For more than half a century he played the key role in preserving the history of Missouri. His job and his hobby became the same thing. His name was Floyd Shoemaker, and he wasn’t a general or a politician. He was a historian.
