It was all just an exercise as state emergency officials staged a mock disaster to test preparedness. But it will provide an indication of just how ready we are for the worst. Representatives of various state and federal departments gathered at State Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Jefferson City to test their readiness to deal with a potential disaster at Mid-Missouri’s Callaway Nuclear Power Plant. SEMA Director Ron Reynolds says this kind of drill helps keep skills sharp. He points out SEMA’s Emergency Operations Center has been through a good many disaster situations in the past, and is always making improvements. Emergency officials have already begun reviewing the test. A report on the effectiveness and quality of the exercise will be issued Friday.
