Missouri has given the nation two of its greatest newspaper publishers in William Rockhill Nelson of the ‘Kansas City Star’ and Joseph Pulitzer of the ‘St.Louis Post-Dispatch’. One of the nation’s best small town newspapermen also is claimed by Missouri. He learned his trade here, but took it to Atchison, Kansas, and became known as “The Sage of Potato Hill.” His name was E. W. Howe.
