If Twins starter Johan Santana wasn’t as sharp as he usually is, he had a reason. His focus was perhaps on his wife, who had given birth to their second child, a girl, earlier in the day. However, the defending A.L. Cy Young Award winner was good enough to get a 5-4 win over the Royals Wednesday.

After getting down 3-0, the Royals rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead. Tony Graffanino drove in a run with a single and Mike Sweeney cleared the bases with a three-run homer to make it 4-3.

The Twins tied the game in the sixth inning thanks to Terry Tiffee’s sacrifice fly to score Torii Hunter. Shannon Stewart gave Minnesota the lead and the win with an RBI single in the eighth inning.

Santana finished with 10 strikeouts, no walks and the win, while Jose Lima fell to 0-3. He was charged with four runs in the loss.
