The Senate votes to make it tougher for minors who drink and for those who give the alcohol to the minors. It’s given preliminary approval to Senate Leader Michael Gibbons’ bill that starts out with a requirement that each Missouri school develop a policy regarding its students who are involved with alcohol. On the punitive side, a key element of this legislation would lead to any youthful offender under the age of 16 being denied a driver’s license until he or she turns 18. 16 is the current age minimum to obtain a driver’s license. As for parents and other drinking age adults who obtain alcohol for those not of drinking age, these offenses become more severe under the law. One more positive vote sends the bill to the House.
