The State Supreme Court has set an execution date for a man who strangled a nine-year-old girl in 1986. Vernon Brown, who was convicted of the October, 1986 strangulation death of a neighbor girl in north St. Louis, is scheduled to die by lethal injection on May 18th at the penitentiary in Bonne Terre. According to court documents – Brown, who was using the alias Thomas Turner – saw Janet Perkins walking by his home and enticed her into the house. He bound her feet and one hand with a coat hanger and later strangled her to death with a rope. The youngster’s body was found in two trash bags near a dumpster in an alley behind Brown’s house. Brown’s execution will be the third since Missouri’s unofficial moratorium on the death penalty was lifted and an inmate was put to death last month. A second execution is set for later this month.
