Broadcaster and political commentator Michael Reagan visits Jefferson City to speak to the Vitae Caring Foundation – a pro-life organization that tries to reduce the number of abortions. Reagan’s comments focused on efforts to encourage women considering abortion to find alternatives such as adoption. He also addressed an issue which has become a hot topic at the State Capitol this year – stem cell research. Reagan says he is not opposed to stem cell research in general, but is opposed to embryonic stem cell research, which he claims is not proven to be effective in dealing with any diseases. Reagan says there is no doubt in his mind that stem cell research would not have made any improvement to his father’s Alzheimer’s disease. And, he criticizes those who have politicized the issue by claiming Ronald Reagan would have benefitted from such research. About 1250 people attended the dinner.
