The Royals first series of the season is a loss. They fell to the Tigers 7-3 on Thursday, dropping two-of-three in Detroit. Starting pitcher Zack Greinke had to leave the game in the third inning after getting beaned on his forearm with a line drive. He was given an x-ray and it revealed nothing more than a bruise.

Mike Wood replaced Greinke and held the Tigers scoreless until Rondell White teed off on a solo home run in the sixth inning. In the seventh Detroit exploded for six runs to put the game away. Mike Wood loaded the bases and Jamie Cerda came in to deal with the damage. He allowed an RBI single to Carlos Guillen and an RBI double to Pudge Rodriquez. Two more scored a batter later thanks to Tony Graffanino’s throwing error. on a fielders choice. Carlos Pena and Bobby Higginson singled in the other two runs.

Mike Sweeney’s ground ball scored a run in the eighth for Kansas City and Emil Brown’s two-run homer in the ninth made it 7-3.

The Royals travel west to face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this weekend.
