Lawmakers return to the Capitol after their Spring break. House Speaker Rod Jetton sees two main issues facing State Representatives upon their return this afternoon – the budget and the school funding formula. Democrats have been critical of the pace on the budget, noting Republican leaders failed to get a preliminary spending plan to the body before Spring break. Jetton says House leaders aren’t dragging their feet. On education, Jetton says the proposed fix of the school funding formula has been moving quicker than he thought it would. He says it’s in position to get through the Legislature this year. On another topic, Jetton supports the cuts in Medicaid approved by the Senate. Critics say the plan will take $400-Million out of the state economy, but Jetton says the state can’t afford the match to get the $400-Million from Washington.
