The most disappointed of the Missouri teams headed to the NIT would have to be the SMS Lady Bears. They were left out of the NCAA Tournament after losing in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference to Illinois. They became the first number one seed to lose in the tourney. They’ll have to settle for the WNIT, where they will host SMU on Friday night at the Hammons Center. SMS enters the tournament with a record of 20-8 and the Mustangs are 19-10. Their only other trip to the WNIT was in 2002 when they lost to Eastern Kentucky 72-65 in overtime. SMS and SMU have never met.
