A congressional hearing on March 17 in Washington D.C. will not have Mark McGwire as a speaker. McGwire was offered a chance to speak at the hearing, which will take a look at the use of steroids in baseball, but “respectfully declined”, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. MLB commissioner Bud Selig will have a representative appear for him and MLB Players Union head Donald Fehr will be rpesent. According to the Baltimore Sun’s website subpoenas for McGwire, Rafael Palmeiro, Frank Thomas, Curt Schilling and Jason Giambi could be issued today, forcing them to attend.
