The free agency period begins today in the NFL. The Rams are not expected to re-sign future Hall of Famer cornerback/safety Aeneas Williams, who couldn’t finish the season because of an arthritic shoulder. Offensive guards Chris Dishman and Tom Nutten, who came out of retirement in 2004, are expected to re-retire, leaving even more need for offensive linemen. Linebacker is also expected to be a priority for the Rams. Pisa Tinoisamoa will move from linebacker to strong safety and the Rams are not expected to re-sign Tommy Polley, leaving two openings.

The Chiefs main concern—again—is a sagging defense. They hope to address that on Wednesday, as they visit with cornerback Samari Rolle, who was recently cut by the Titans. Rolle missed the last four games of the 2004 season with a knee injury and is currently in legal hot water after being charged with beating his wife last month. The Chiefs area also trying to schedule meetings with corner back Fred Smoot of the Redskins and Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter.
