The SMS men’s basketball team ended their regular season campaign with a 76-68 win on the road against Evansville. Deke Thompson fired away and connected for a career-high 27 points. Thompson was deadly from behind the arc, hitting 7-of-10 three pointers on Monday night. The Bears hit were 10-of-17 as a team from the three-point line and it was a good thing they were—SMS grabbed just 19 rebounds, compared to the Purple Aces’ 31. Tamarr Maclin and Nathan Bilyeu were the only other double-digit achievers with 13 and 11 points apiece. With the win, SMS improved to 16-11 on the season and finished 10-8 in the Missouri Valley Conference which locked them in to the 5th seed in the MVC Tournament. They’ll take on Northern Iowa in their first game on Saturday. SMS lost both regular season games to the Panthers.
