The UMKC men’s basketball team will try to inch closer to their first regular season conference title since moving from NAIA to NCAA Division I in 1988, as they face Chicago St. on the road Thursday night. The Kangaroos probably feel they have some unfinished business with the Cougars, who snapped UMKC’s 11-game winning streak on February 5. In that game, UMKC led 69-64 with 18 seconds to play, but Chicago St. was able to get three quick baskets, including a 55-footer at the buzzer to win it. There was also a controversial non-call on a travel, which would have ended the game and given UMKC the win. The Kangaroos enter tonight’s game with a record of 15-9 overall and 11-2 in conference play. They lead Oral Roberts—who they beat Tuesday—by a half-game in the Mid-Continent Conference standings. Chicago St. is 7-17 overall and 6-8 in league play.
