Senator Jim Talent is a moving force behind a piece of legislation on Capitol Hill that would raise money, through bonding, for the nation’s transportation infrastructure. The Build America Bonds initiative involves a $30-Billion one-time bonding program. Talent says Missouri would probably stand to initially receive about $600-Million from the bonding, with a lot of discretion as to which transportation projects and improvements the money would fund. In all, nationwide, the initiative has the potential to generate more than $171-Billion in economic activity. The legislation has just been unveiled, but Talent is hoping it will be passed sometime this year.
